Understanding the Teaching of Phonics
15th September 2016, 9.30 – 11.30 a.m.

This half-day session will support teaching assistants with the principles behind the teaching of phonics, subject knowledge linked to each Phase with a particular focus on the terminology and enunciation and will also give them some ideas for strategies, games and ideas which will support children with their phonics learning, their reading and their spelling. The session is suitable for teaching assistants in any year group from Nursery to Y6.

 

Supporting Children with Grammar and Punctuation
22nd September 2016, 9.30 – 11.30 a.m.

This half-day session will support teaching assistants with the principles behind the teaching of grammar in relation to the grammar tests and the teaching of writing, the progression in grammar learning across the year groups and subject knowledge linked to this and will also give them some ideas for strategies, games and ideas which will support children with their learning.

 

Supporting Children with Engagement and Progress in Reading
29th September 2016, 9.30 – 11.30 a.m.

This half-day session will support teaching assistants with showing children how enjoyable reading is and helping them become a reader for life, with knowing what progress in reading looks like across the year groups, with helping children to read, understand and engage with books and with helping children make progress in reading by asking challenging questions which deepen children’s comprehension.

 

Guiding Children’s Writing
6th October 2016, 9.30 – 11.30 a.m.

This half-day session will support teaching assistants with showing children how enjoyable writing is and helping them to become writers, knowing the principles behind guided writing and how it can be used to teach focus groups of children what they need to know to move them on in their learning.
